italoboyz.jpgThe Italoboyz's moniker is slightly misleading on a couple levels. First, it's slightly so, because although Marco Donato and Frederico Marton hails from Italy, the twosome have been based in London since about the turn of the millennium. Neither do they play, as one would assume, Italo disco, or even any of the brands of mainstream house that dominates their homeland's dance music scene. Rather, the pair are the latest up-and-comers on M.A.N.D.Y.'s Get Physical label, which should give trainspotters a clue as to the pair's flavor of thump-thump: pared down, but melodic.

Some have dubbed the Italoboyz' style minimal techno, but both their DJ sets and production work boast the same soulful kick and broad musical knowledge as that of their labelmates. Clicky, cold, and robotic, their four-to-the-floor is not. This afterhours party that technically starts on New Year's Day also provides the tireless with an early look at Nocturnal's underutilized terrace, which has recently undergone a total facelift.

The Italoboyz perform with Nova and Simon Wish, Thursday, January 1, Nocturnal, 50 NE 11th St., Miami. Doors open at 3 a.m.. Tickets cost $30 in advance from www.wantickets.com. Ages 21+ with ID. 305-576-6996; www.nocturnalmiami.com.
