In case you missed the film La Mala when it played in Miami-Dade College's Muestra de Cine Cubano in May, the opportunity presents itself once again to catch this flick. The movie is based on the life of legendary Cuban singer, La Lupe, played by singer-songwriter and pianist, Lena. For those unschooled in el cubaneo, La Yiyiyi is considered by many to be one of Cuba's most iconic exports, indomitable and relentless in her passionate, frenzied performances, in which she frequently beat at her chest with her fist and tossed shoes and jewelry into the crowd.

The film opened in Spain back in May, where it earned various awards, including the Halcon Maltes, People's Choice in the Ibiza Film Festival and Best Female Lead for Lena in the XXIX Mostra de Valencia. Consequently, all the music was performed by Lena and her father, producer Rey Nerio.

The film will be playing in the Tower Theatre on Calle Ocho beginning Friday, September 4.
