Let us spare you the exciting events that took place from 10:30 p.m. until after 3 a.m. Lil Wayne wasn't there. He was supposed to be there, but all the crowd got was an empty stage and DJs playing top 40 rap hits whilst letting fans know Lil Wayne is only five minutes away.
Perhaps they meant hours instead of minutes, because around 3:10 a.m. Lil Wayne finally arrived and hit the stage. It’s about to go down! Right?
Not quite. Wayne — accompanied by an entourage of Mack Maine, Ace Hood, Nino Brown, a couple of women, and some nondescript fellows — finally made his way to the stage, which looked more like a VIP section. There were three couches and tables stacked with bottles of Ciroc, D’usee, and more. Wayne, who must have been tired from riding his tortoise to the show, took a seat on one of those couches before doing anything and proceeded to take a smoke break while the DJ played some some Drake, Tupac, and Jeezy.
After 20 minutes of general hanging out for fans to watch, Wayne finally eased his way center stage, but not before having security escort an unruly fan outside.
And by "escort" we mean knock the fuck out.
You can see what happened in the Instagram video below. It's unclear why exactly Wayne targeted this particular concert-goer. Some reports say it was because he was holding up an unkind message on his iPhone, while other reports say it was because he threw a beer bottle at the stage.
Here's a video of the man — before he was punched — holding up his iPhone with a message that ends in "Where is Wayne?"
Whatever it was he did that ended up pissing Wayne off, it's hard to imagine it justified a haymaker.
But, after the assault, Wayne finally stepped up to the mic. “She live in Fort Lauderdale and I’m closer to South Beach,” Wayne recited a cappella from his song “Fingers Hurting." The crowd caught their second wind and started rapping along with excitement. They even put two fingers in the air at Wayne’s request to show their admiration for Sorry for the Wait 2. This was an improvement from the previous fingers being thrown in the air.
With the warm-up verse out of the way, the much-anticipated “Coco” beat began, and Wayne rapped his all-out Birdman assault remix with the support of his fans.
After laying down his contribution on Nick Minaj’s “Only,” Wayne took some time to get to know his adoring fans better. “I got a question, if your pussy stank, be quiet." Wayne paused while the confused crowd wondered whether that was actually a question. "I said if your pussy stank, be quiet,” Wayne repeated. And with pride, the women in attendance yelled, because, of course, who would want to be quiet?
With female hygiene out of the way, Wayne moved on to his verse off Minaj’s latest song, “Truffle Butter,” then thanked the audience for their time and proceeded to leave.
That was it. Five hours late and only two and a half songs. Fans filed out of Revolution Live understandably upset and confused. A ticket to Weezy's show that night cost anywhere from $80 to $150 (not including hospital bills), and we'd be willing to bet that most of the crowd would have liked their money back.
This is not the first time Lil Wayne has pulled this shit. He's kind of famous for it. And he just did the same exact thing at Club Skye in Tampa. Weezy's career has certainly seen its ups and downs, and his fans have stuck with him through it all.
But incidents like these may threaten to change that. How can Wayne expect any loyalty out of his fans when he treats them like shit, making them wait for hours and hours in hot, crowded clubs, before finally waltzing in and half-assing it? Who else could get away with that?
Maybe that's a testament to Wayne's talent — that people will still buy tickets in spite of the bullshit. But rest assured, it won't last long.
