Lori Garrote Celebrates Her New EP with Two South Florida Shows

The longtime South Florida rocker and former member of The New, Lori Garrote, has a busy week ahead of her. Today she will be at Radio-Active Records in Fort Lauderdale, and on Friday the grunge-pop songstress will be at Gramps in Miami. All this traveling is to commemorate her Subject to Change EP release. 

On Subject to Change, Garrote is somewhere between the soul of Alanis Morissette and the raw distortion of the Breeders. Combining '90’s grunge with modern surfer grooves, Garrote explores pure and personal themes, from being in love to feeling overwhelmed.

Her desire to record her own material came after she grew tired of handing out music samples she didn’t feel represented her as an artist. With the release of her EP, Garrote feels confident that she did everything just the way she wanted to. “Although as humans we are constantly changing, I finally feel I have music that represents me perfectly during that exact time in my life,” she says. “I think the urge to constantly create is inspiration enough.” 
Working with friends George Evans Jr. on bass, Eddy De La Cruz on drums, and co-producing with Ferny Coipel of the eclectic local band Humbert, Garrote felt totally in control when creating Subject to Change. “It was the first time I was so hands-on with the production process and I loved it."

Garrote had an especially positive experience working with Coipel. “He made me feel comfortable enough to where I was able to achieve the level of honesty I wanted to convey in the EP,” Garrote says. “He doesn’t intimidate. It’s like working with your best friend.” At both Gramps and Radio-Active, fans can expect to hear some top secret music. Garrote will be performing two other new songs that will appear on her first full-length album, which is she is currently working on.

“Working on this EP was like a full-time job I really enjoyed,” she says. And now you can too. And because everyone likes free stuff, there will be free posters, pizza, and a raffle to win a test press of Garrote's EP at the Radio-Active show.
