Don't have the cash for a midweek trip to Rio? Well, no worries. Tonight Champion Sound and two big-time beat junkies are bringing a taste of Brazil's funk and fat asses to these subtropical shores.
Jumping off at 10 p.m., the weekly hip-hop humpfest will host Marcelinho Da Lua and Erick Paredes, a couple of Brasilero bros heavily hooked on percussion. A Rio resident, Da Lua is a total eclecticist, jacking musical motifs from reggaeton, tropicalia, proibidão, bossa nova, and a million other sources. Meanwhile, Paredes is a Toronto-bred, Miami-based DJ and producer with a ton of dub and broken beat in his blood.
As usual, you can expect backup from residents Sire Esq., A-Train, Mr. Brown, Lumin, and Manuvers. But new to Champion Sound is a 9 to 11 p.m. opening set by live jazz-funk crew Tugboat Complex.
Now, go get a Brazilian wax and a bottle of cachaça. You've got exactly 7 hours before it's time to fucking baile.
