That sweat on your back and the afternoon thunderstorm can only mean one thing: Spring is over. With summer upon us, it's time to look at what music awaits as you dodge mosquitos and floss the mango rind from your teeth.
As always, this is one writer's perspective on which South Florida musical events you should be most excited for in the coming months. If you're looking for classical music concerts hitting Boise, you must look elsewhere, my friend.
This is a list for music lovers of a particular taste in Broward and Palm Beach counties (or those in Miami-Dade or Monroe counties with gas money). Without further ado, let's dig those summer tunes.
June 18 - Grizzly Bear perform at the Fillmore - Will be interesting to see how much energy this Brooklyn dream-rock act brings, as their music is reminiscent of a soothing lullaby.
June 25 - John Legend releases new album, Love in the Future. Five years after his last album, and months after his triumphant contribution to the Django Unchained soundtrack, Legend returns with guests Kanye West, Q-Tip, and Rick Ross.
June 26 - Americanara Music Festival at Cruzan Amphitheatre - Even if you're not into music festivals, it's hard not to be a fan of American songwriters and resist a tour that features Bob Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and Bob Weir, especially with tickets starting at only $25.
July 14 - Lil Wayne, Tiga, T.I., and Future at Cruzan Amphitheatre - Go for no other reason than to boo the number one Miami Heat hater, Lil Wayne, after the Heat win their second consecutive championship.
July 18 - Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros release their third album that is confusingly self-titled (as all self-titled albums are). Anyone who caught their performance at SunFest should be excited to hear the recorded versions of this Los Angeles based collective's new songs.
July 31 - Black Sabbath at Cruzan Amphitheatre - With enough time passing to forget that Ozzy Osbourne was once more famous as a reality TV staple than as a rock star, Ozzy returns with the band that made him famous, Black Sabbath. The Godfathers of metal also have a new album out June 11, titled 13.
July (exact date unknown) - Wu-Tang Clan release new album, A Better Tomorrow - 20 years from their debut album, the Staten Island rap supergroup reunite with all their surviving members for what they threaten to be their farewell album.
August 13 - The Cult at Revolution Live - Ian Astbury once controversially stood in for Jim Morrison with the Doors of the 21st Century, but now he's back touring with the post-punk outfit that gave us "Love Removal Machine" and "She Sells Sanctuary."
August 24 - Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts at Revolution Live - Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Weiland tours with a new group promising to sing the hits from his glory years.
Summer (exact date unknown) - MGMT release their third album, which is also self-titled (this seems to be a craze) - After the sophomore slump of Congratulations, MGMT hopes to dig back into the gold mine that was their debut album, Oracular Spectacular.
