Since the release of Illmatic in the mid-'90s, Nasir Jones has kept the increasingly ringtone-ready hip-hop genre alive with anthemic tales of the street that are as clever as they are detailed. The storied New York rapper and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley wove together a passionate, brutal performance at the West Palm Beach waterfront at SunFest back in May, and based upon the crowd's frenzied response, this is an easy endorsement.
The set should feature Nas rapid-firing through his ample back catalog and stretching out a few choice cuts like "Made You Look" and Marley exhibiting his unique fusion of dancehall and hip-hop via "Welcome to Jamrock" — plus a few hits by the "Sr. Gong," and some collaborative time with both superstars sharing the stage. Speaking from experience, it's time and money well spent.
