Brad Lovett of Slashpine; and bassist Jason Ledgard.
"There's definitely two different scenes," Piro says of the musical activity across county lines. "In Miami, you have more what I'd call the artsy stuff, like Shroud Eater and Holly Hunt -- the more esoteric, conceptually involved bands. And then in Broward, you have more, for lack of a better word, brutal bands," he explains. "There are two scenes, but they're so separate from each other.
Piro says of the two ladies and man on drums, "I fucking love that band."
Slashpine
"So creepy, so dark, so weird," he notes of the Miami trio.
Holly Hunt
Of Beatriz Monteavaro and Gavin Perry: "Goddamn
killer. They are the black-and-white stick drawing of metal. Stripped
down to the two things you need: a kickass guitar riff and some drums."
Devalued
"Every time I watch them, I feel like it's 1992 again and Terrorizer's on stage or something."
The Tunnel
Of this new band, Piro raves, "Two
dudes from Venezuela. It's not really metal, but it's some of the
heaviest stuff. Literally, they're one of my favorite bands right now.
Weird, awesome shit."
He called the Toilets an amazing band. We agree.
Other noteworthy acts: There's also Wrongful Death, of which Piro says, "They're these kids, like 18-, 19-year-old kids. They do this death metal technical shreddy stuff." There's also Suns of the Morning Star, Manifest Test Subject, 440, and VCR.
