Fun, highly bloggable fact: One-half of Parallels, Cameron Findlay, was originally the drummer for electronic-noise terrorists Crystal Castles. On the road with that act, though, when Findlay wasn't providing skittering blast beats, he was busily writing more-melodic material. The resulting frosty, New Romantic-style dance-floor anthems were meant for a solo project, but soon Findlay recruited frontwoman Holly Dodson, and thus was born Parallels as a full-blown band. Together, they released their debut full-length, Visionaries, last year. On it, Dodson's slightly shrill soprano lends an especially alien-like quality to Findlay's sci-fi synth jams. Those mourning the absence of groups like Ladytron will be especially pleased.
