It's been a rough couple of years for Delaware emo-core stalwarts Boy Sets Fire. Since the release of the band's major-label debut, 2003's Tomorrow Come Today, the quintet has lost a bass player and a record deal. With a new lineup and a return to indieville, you'd think it would be time to lighten up, maybe let a little optimism shine through the melancholy clang and thrash. Not likely. Boy Sets Fire is as bummed out as ever. Its sixth album, The Misery Index: Notes From the Plague Years, is rife with dejection and anguish. Song titles like "Nostalgic for Guillotines" and "So Long... Thanks for the Crutches" alone should be enough to clue the listener in that these guys aren't about to take you on a walk through the park.

Boys Sets Fire burns down the house Saturday, May 19, at Ray's Downtown, 519 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. The show starts at 7 p.m. with Versus the Mirror and the Fully Down. Tickets cost $10. Call 561-835-1577, or visit www.raysdowntown.com.
