The notion of a white reggae band from the California coast may conjure memories of Sublime, but Santa Barbara's Rebelution plays it far straighter than its genre-blending forebears. The band's brand of reggae has cleaner upstrokes and tighter corners than dub, and leader Eric Rachmany's guitar solos show traces of heavy metal and Santanaesque groove-rock alongside reggae's steady syncopations. You'll never confuse Rebelution for dreadlocked island dwellers, and the band wisely doesn't attempt to channel the Wailers too closely. This Revolution show is part of a gathering of like-minded bands called the Winter Greens Tour (and those greens have nothing to do with spruce trees or vegetables, if you follow).
