Legendary song publisher and rock producer Don Kirshner died Monday, January 17, of heart failure in Boca Raton. Kirshner was a hitmaker who's stable of artists included the Monkees, Connie Francis, the Archies, Bobby Darin, Neil Diamond, Tony Orlando, and the rock group Kansas, to name a few.
A talented songwriter, Kirshner wrote the classic "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," '60s spring break anthem "Where the Boys Are," and more. Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, and Frank Sinatra have all recorded Kirshner songs.
in 1973, Kirshner created, produced, and hosted his weekly syndicated Rock Concert, which featured live performances by the greatest rock stars of the time. Paul Schaffer parodied Don Kirshner on early Saturday Night Live episodes.
Kirshner was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheila, and his children and grandchildren. No further information on his death is available at this time. Services are being arranged in Florida.
