Venezuelan jazz pianist/composer Silvano Monasterios is no stranger to accolades. It seems he's been earning them since he began his professional music career at the young age of 18. In 1989, he received an award for "Best Soloist" in the Miami Jazz Festival. In '91 he earned an "Outstanding Soloist" award from the University of Colorado. In '98, the year he dropped his first album, the Hennessy Cognac Jazz Search bestowed upon him the award for "New Artist of the Year" in New York. DownBeat Magazine awarded him for being "Best Jazz Instrumental Soloist." And last but not least, he won an award for "Best Jazz Musician" in our Best of Miami issue this year.

See for yourself what all that buzz is about tomorrow night at the Van Dyke on the way cheap (and by that, I mean free but for whatever alcohol and food you order).

Silvano Monasterios performs Upstairs at the Van Dyke (846 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach) Thursday, September 17. No cover.
