The British duo Swayzak is a dance Darwinist. Last time, on 2002's Dirty Dancing, the onetime tech-house act's evolution lapsed into fashion and electroclashed with its previous emphasis on beauty. Loops from the Bergerie, Swayzak's fourth studio album, houses all that was good about Dancing (specifically, rampant pop tendencies) while turning toward introspection, expertly folding minimal, crunked synth lines into almost every song. The album sounds like Junior Boys with balls, as the group lines its best electronic dirges with guitars, analog synths, and 4/4 beats while permanent member David "Brun" Brown and guest Richard Davis sing morosely gorgeous melodies. -- Rich Juzwiak
