The biggest social networking website has realized it's time to recognize the fastest-growing population segment in the United States. Enter MySpace Latino, a bilingual sub-site within the MySpace juggernaut, launching now after a beta period starting last year. Just like the original MySpace, it boasts star-studded "secret shows" to which admission can only be gained by friending the Secret Shows page. This Friday, Studio A hosts the very first Show Secreto, and the lineup here is diverse. The San Juan, Puerto Rico-based quartet Circo pumps out New Wave-inspired tunes as icy and angular as their cheekbones and haircuts. The gigantic, eight-piece Locos Por Juana hail from Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Miami; their sound is a similar global mishmash, from rock to funk to reggae to classic salsa dura. Heading up the whole thing is reggaeton pioneer Tego Calderon. An early star of the genre, he's moved beyond its limitations into straight-up street hip-hop inflected with tropical rhythms. A surprise guest will be announced Friday night onstage. While tickets are free, getting them involves using MySpace: Add "Shows Secretos" (myspace.com/showssecretos) to your friends, then bring a printout of your profile to Studio A starting at 2 p.m. on April 11 to pick up your wristband.
