It goes without saying that the Heartbreakers have been one of the most influential rock 'n' roll bands on the whole punk thing. They're right up there with proto acts like the Velvet Underground, the MC5, the Stooges, and Question Mark & the Mysterians. Whether they considered themselves punks or not is not for me to say, but their association with Dee Dee Ramone and the classic track about dope, "Chinese Rocks," has left an indelible mark on the genre. They rocked hard.

Time, of course, has not been so kind. Members Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan passed away in 1991 and 1992, respectively; Richard Hell has largely shied away from music; Billy Rath is whereabouts unknown; and Walter Lure turned to a career on Wall Street. However, Lure does occasionally perform on stage, and we are oh-so-lucky to have him grace our bastion of rock 'n' roll, Churchill's.

He'll be on-stage backed by two of our very own legendary musicians who've left their particular marks on the new wave, rock 'n' roll, and cowpunk scenes of the 1980s, drummer Bobby Tak and guitarist extraordinaire Charlie Pickett. These two cats routinely perform together and have an outfit called the Loose Cannons where an updated version of their combined racket lives in the throes of pure rock 'n' roll ecstasy.

Joining the festivities will be the punk 'n' roll of the Can't Stand Ya's, the Cyrillic psychobilly of Miami's Pravda vs. Glaza, the garage musings of New York's NY Junk, and the sultry sexuality of Barbara Ann's BadAss.
