Electronica is alive and well in the F.L.A., having survived the demise of Squeeze and the unfortunate revival of college alt-rock in the guise of 20-somethings doing their best Eddie Vedder impression while bitching about their girlfriends. Thank Tomita there's Ultrastar*, a trio of tech-heads that loves nothing more than transporting you back to those halcyon days when Respectable Street was the cultural epicenter of all things alternative. Its latest album, Beautiful Abstractions, echoes the influence of DJ Shadow and Massive Attack, as well as more esoteric artists like Aphex Twin and the Future Sound of London, combining electronic beats and guitar with velvety female vocals. -- Jon Wilkins

Ultrastar* performs at 10 p.m. Saturday, August 21, at Karma Lounge, 4 W. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Show is free. Call 954-523-7159.
