Although the Y100 Jingle Ball 2010 lineup isn't posted on the radio station's site yet and won't be announced on-air until Friday, Ticketmaster had different ideas. Ten artists who are "subject to change" are listed on the event page right now for the December 11 event at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise. Just two years ago, the stage featured Rihanna, Chris Brown, Lady Gaga, and Fall Out Boy. Last year's Jingle Ball included Shakira, the Fray, and Flo Rida. So, who's coming this year? Now, County Grind is a pretty staunch poptimist, but some of the artists on this year's roster are worth a tad more anticipation than others. Below, we have the ten tentative performers for the Jingle Ball in somewhat sharply descending order.
10. B.O.B. is a fantastic showman -- varied songs, stylish stage presentation, and hip-hop chops. Never skipped a beat during a recent visit to Revolution. Rooting for Bobby Ray is easy on this list.
9. Adam Lambert figures as another recent South Florida visitor who tends to bring as much controversy on the beach as he does on stage.
8. Jay Sean is a Cash Money associate who probably has the silkiest voice of the lineup. He also gets points for beating the competition for a 2012 anthem, and features with Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne don't hurt either.
7. Flo Rida's officially stuck in the '80s. New single "Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)" pulls a sample from Yello's "Oh Yeah," popularized in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Twix advertisements. Would it be better if Yello joined him onstage? Assuredly.
6. Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It" interpolates Lionel Richie's Yacht Rock-worthy "All Night Long." Nuff said.
5. Katy Perry, now a newlywed,
should be closer to the bottom of this list based upon the
headache-inducing "California Gurls." Stage spectacle possibilities involving cotton candy for all hold her in the middle.
4. Selena Gomez is innocuous. No need to rank her any higher or lower.
3. Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" goes on and on and on, but not in the way we like.
2. The Script is a blow-in-the-breeze Irish band that counts U2 among its bros and that we've barely heard of. If Y100 were an adult contemporary station, this pick would make more sense.
1. Train is laughing all the way to the bank right now, and only Jamie Foxx is a serious rival in terms of AARPop. This pick is thanks to TV jingle staple "Hey Soul Sister," the biggest single of the band's career, which mentions a band that existed long before many of the Jingle Ballers were even born -- Mr. Mister.
