GOP presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann is about to receive a letter from one of those "radical environmentalists" she so loathes -- Rep. Allen West.
In a letter dated yesterday, West writes that he was "troubled" by the interview in which Bachmann said she'd be open to drilling in the Everglades, and although he doesn't go full-hippie, he lets Bachmann know that raping the Everglades is a definite no-no.
"Please be assured that I strongly support an all-of-the-above energy approach that includes development of natural gas, clean coal, other alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal, as well as American produced oil," West writes. "I believe safe and responsible offshore drilling is an important part of a comprehensive energy plan, however, drilling in the Everglades should be absolutely off limits."
West said two weeks ago that he was going to "straighten her out" over her position on the Everglades, but he didn't quite do it in typical West fashion.
He writes that Bachmann "may not fully understand the importance of the Everglades" since she's from Minnesota but says that it's very important that any presidential candidate is committed to restoration and preservation of the 'Glades.
West then gets into a few paragraphs that read like an informational pamphlet to attempt to school Bachmann on the plant and wildlife species in the Everglades, as well as the support from people to restore and maintain the area and the fact that 6 million people get their drinking water from the area.
He also says he'd be "pleased" to set up a meeting between Bachmann and Florida Wildlife Commissioner Ron Bergeron, as you can see in the letter below:
