Four more people were charged late last week for their alleged roles in the Ponzi scheme of former Fort Lauderdale lawyer and scam-man extraordinaire Scott Rothstein.
The U.S. Attorney's Office announced on Friday that Howard Kusnick, 58, of Tamarac, Stephen Caputi, 53, of Lauderhill, William Corte, 38, of Plantation, and Curtis Renie, 38, of Fort Lauderdale, were each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud -- punishable by up to five years in prison.
The four are all expected to plead guilty to their charges as part of an
arrangement with the FBI, which hints to even more future arrests in the Rothstein saga.
"The FBI will continue to unravel the remaining web of fraudulent
schemes created by Scott Rothstein," John V. Gillies, the special agent
in charge for the FBI's Miami office, said last week when the charges were announced. "We will
shine a light on every aspect of this fraud. Like Rothstein, those who
chose greed over integrity will also have a price to pay."
