In two short news stories, there was so much shade thrown at Palm Beach billionaire Jeff Greene, the former U.S. Senate candidate might have to invest a few hundred million in solar power just to believe sunlight still exists.
Greene was over in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum, where rich people talk to other filthy-rich elites about how to fix the world. And Greene's solution? Americans need to live more simply, want less stuff, and change their lives "so we have less things and a smaller, better existence," he said, according to Bloomberg.
The irony of a billionaire telling other billionaires that the less fortunate should want less (and, in effect, be happy with paltry wages as they slave away in hotels owned by the likes of Greene) wasn't lost on reporters.

Bloomberg's account included one of Greene's quotes during the conference:
"America's lifestyle expectations are far too high and need to be adjusted so we have less things and a smaller, better existence," Greene said in an interview today at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. "We need to reinvent our whole system of life."
And then the esteemed, billionaire-owned financial publication added this tidbit:
Greene, who flew his wife, children and two nannies on a private jet plane to Davos for the week, said he's planning a conference in Palm Beach, Florida, at the Tideline Hotel called "Closing the Gap."

The Palm Beach Post picked up the story, adding that Greene is saying we all need to live simpler while he owns so much of Palm Beach County that the newspaper once had to do some visual data to inform people about how much of the local area this guy actually owns.
And the Post pointed out that the Denver Post (Jeff Greene's patronizing twaddle from Davos) and Vanity Fair (Billionaire Davos Attendee Thinks Your "Lifestyle Expectations" Are Too High) also weighed in on Greene's remarks.
Greene is a man who has so much money, he could lose $2 billion and still be a billionaire. But give him credit for thinking about the poor when he could be sailing in a golden yacht while eating foie gras made from ducks force-fed with caviar and served by strippers.

But maybe he's right. Maybe we all should want and make do with less, especially in Palm Beach. After all, Greene owns it all.
