Mark Jusevic drank five beers and a bottle of NyQuil before jumping into his car, falling asleep behind the wheel, and crashing into an innocent woman sitting at a bus stop, according to reports Monday.
The tragic situation occurred Sunday just before 7 p.m. when Jusevic's GMC Safari hit Jamie Lynn Honaker, who was sitting at a bus stop on the north sidewalk on West Sample Road. By the time first responders arrived, 41-year-old Honaker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jusevic tried to keep driving, but he was apprehended two blocks away. According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, his van "had extensive front end damage and a flat tire as a result of the crash," and he stopped the car to check the damage, too drunk to know he just killed somebody. It didn't take long for law enforcement to arrive on the scene and immediately take the drunken Jusevic into custody.
In court Monday, the Sun Sentinel reported that County Judge John "Jay" Hurley admonished Jusevic, saying, "You have been down this road before... I'm concerned that this is not the first time that you've done this."
It's unknown if Jusevic drove drunk with such horrible consequences before this past weekend, but he does have a record of causing drunk driving damage. Back in 2005, he was charged with a DUI and leaving the scene of an accident, criminal records show.
He's currently facing DUI manslaughter charges for killing Honaker.
