We all know the danger's of drinking and driving, but drinking and walking?
Next time you're out and about in Delray Beach, make sure you're not us unlucky as 25-year-old Reynaldo Arturo Mendez Torres.
Torres was fatally struck by a train early Tuesday morning near Railroad Avenue in the area between NE First Street and Atlantic
Avenue, according to the Palm
Beach Post. Sadly, it's one of the few railway junctions where there are no railroad crossing arms to alert those around to oncoming trains, as the road runs parallel to the tracks.
Police
say Torres was dead on impact after being hit by an oncoming Florida
East Coast Railway train when he stopped on the tracks to call to his
girlfriend to follow him.
Torres was leaving a downtown bar located a stone's throw from the
west side of the train tracks, when he misjudged the oncoming train's
distance, according to Sgt. Nicole Guerriero, spokeswoman for Delray
Beach Police Department.
For a state whose
national pastime is pretty much nonstop drinking, let's just take
this as a lesson to watch where you walk when you're drunk.
