As the rest of the nation is crawling out of the caves and embracing the legalizing of pot and same-sex marriage, Florida is still being all Florida about such things.
According to a new poll conducted by Quinnipiac, residents of our fine state remain split down the middle on gay marriage, while a majority thinks legalizing the pot is a bad, terrible, no-good thing.
Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,261 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percent.
The survey found that 45 percent of Floridians still oppose gay marriage, while 43 percent support it -- which shows some progress from earlier in the year.
Back in May, Quinnipiac showed that the state was cut right down the middle with this issue, with 50 percent for and against same-sex marriage. That's a 5 percent swing. Hoozah!!
Meanwhile, on the question of legalizing marijuana, 52 percent are against the idea of joining Washington and Colorado in the legalizing-cannabis party.
Forty-two percent say the drug should be made legal.
As for other important topics, 73 percent say they are against any efforts to allow colleges to charge higher tuition rates. Sixty-six percent also oppose the charging of higher rates for certain majors.
