Le Palais Royal is a gaudy 60,000-plus-square-foot "palace" that will cast a garish shadow all across Hillsboro Beach with its supreme palatialness when it's done being built by 2015.
The home, which is inspired by the Palace of Versailles, boasts 11 bedrooms, 17 baths, a 4,500-square-foot pool with waterslide, a glass-bottom Jacuzzi, a putting green, and an underground 30-car garage. It also has the world's first IMAX home theater, with 18 seats.
At a listing price of $139 million, it is officially the most expensive home for sale in the United States.
Though the listing agent did not want to disclose the owner's name, public records link it to Robert Pereira -- a construction company owner and former strip club owner who has made the news for giving Sheriff Scott Israel rides on his yacht.
Le Palais Royal sits on the Intracoastal, so naturally it has a 492-foot private dock that can accommodate such a yacht. The palace will also have three master suites each with their own Jacuzzi, as well as a presidential suite, also with its own Jacuzzi, and a $2 million marble staircase. The palace is sound-proof, and is surrounded by a 22-karat gold leaf gate.
The palace, presented by William P.D. Pierce of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, is still being built and is in its final stages of construction.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the owner is selling the home not because it's hideous, but "because he just finished building a yacht and wants to spend more time traveling."
Pereira and his wife Sion own a $35 million super yacht, New Vida. Broward Sheriff Scott Israel was criticized for accepting a ride on it and not disclosing it as a gift. The sheriff said he paid $1,500 for a trip that typically costs $190,000.
In addition to running is construction company, Massachusetts-based Middlesex Corportaion, Pereira reportedly ran the Blue Moon strip club in Tyngsboro, Mass. for 13 years.
The WSJ notes that Le Palais Royal's "$139 million listing price tops the $135 million asking price for a Beverly Hills, Calif., home formerly owned by William Randolph Hearst."
