The Florida Panthers last night announced that star forward Jaromir Jagr will return next year. He agreed to a one-year contract. The terms were not disclosed.

Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon said in a statement, “Jaromir is a Hall of Fame player and had an excellent season playing alongside Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau. His track record speaks for itself, ranking third all-time in points and goals. He has been a great fit with our organization and we are excited to have him back for next season.”

Panthers head coach Gerard Gallant said. “Jaromir has had a tremendous influence on our younger players and has been a key offensive contributor on our team. We are happy to have him back as we look to build off this year’s playoff appearance.”

Jagr, 44, scored 66 points in 79 games this season, placing third all-time in points and third all-time in goals. He also served as captain of the Atlantic Division team at the 2016 NHL All-Star Game in Nashville.

Jagr has played for Pittsburgh, Washington, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, New Jersey, and Florida and won Stanley Cup Championships with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and 1992.

On Twitter, fans thought it was cool:

Jagr announced the news on Facebook by posting a pic of himself with  his girlfriend at the beach.

The caption is in Czech but Facebook's translation says it reads: "In Florida we love it. That's why I'm glad I made a deal with the Panthers on the renewal of contracts for another year."
