Since opening in 2013, the tool shop/bar/social club/arts and event space fought against the "inherent loneliness" of the digital age, as John "Jack" McNulty called it.
Co-owner Brian Weiner said he would provide more information later today (check back here in the afternoon), but in the meantime, organizers left this note on a Facebook page announcing a closing party:
All good things must come to an end and so must our wonderful experiment in temporary autonomy known as Makers Square. For reasons including code compliance, need for more space, and the economic model, we will be closing the current location and possibly moving to a new one in the near future, depending on circumstances/space/expenses. Over the past 3 years, we have connected thousands of amazing people, made great art together, taught many classes and experienced so many great events, but now we must say goodbye for the time being.
Admission will be free but we will be accepting donations to help us with the transition, moving and storage of equipment in the interim period. We appreciate any efforts you may have towards finding a new space, and we look forward to being a vital part of the community as always.
Come and hang with us for the last hoorah!
