According to experts on The Daily Beast, the South Florida region from Miami to Pompano Beach is the 20th gayest metropolitan area in the U.S.

The list was compiled by urban analysts Richard Florida and Gary Cates. But with all due respect to those academics, this region deserves to be in the top ten -- at least.

Check out these facts from The Gay and Lesbian Atlas. There's Fort Lauderdale ranked as having the fourth-largest concentration of same-sex households among large metro regions. There's Wilton Manors ranking third among smaller cities. And the North Fort Lauderdale/Oakland Park neighborhood is the sixth gayest Zip Code in the nation -- nudging out legendary gay 'hoods like Haight-Ashbury and Chelsea, New York.
