Being stuck in traffic sucks. But now, instead of having to look up why the traffic in Palm Beach suddenly got so wretched while still driving or waiting for the next update from the radio station, you can get an audio update thanks to a new traffic app.
The PBSO has partnered with the Audible Media Group to offer residents an audio traffic app for their Android or iPhone.
The PBSO Audio Traffic App is free to download (Android users here) and features voice-activiated on-demand controls that give you updated audio traffic reports as well as any PBSO breaking news alerts.
The app was introduced earlier this month but has since been modified with new updates, including news bulletins being ordered by date. The update also fixed a few minor bugs an earlier version of the app had.
"The expertise that was brought to this app was -- we believe to be -- state of the art," Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says via a news release.
Some of the nontraffic updates include hazardous safety conditions, missing people and children alerts, crimes in progress, and anything else that's relevant for Palm Beach County residents.
Mostly, however, the app is designed to make your commute smoother and help avoid distracted driving. Using the GPS on your phone, it feeds you audio info on traffic updates and possible detours to traffic jams and accidents.
"The biggest piece of the puzzle that had to be in place was we didn't want to have something that caused more distracted driving than we already had a problem with," Bradshaw said.
