It seemed pretty innocent that 79-year-old Alfred Orzechonski and his 63-year-old neighbor were arguing about whose dog was smarter -- except for the part where the police say Orzechonski pulled a gun on him.

According to Palm Beach Gardens police, Orzechonski and the man were going back-and-forth on the dog IQ issue when Orzechonski pulled a silver handgun out of a basket attached to his mobility scooter.

That's when the cops were called.

Orzechonski's excuse for allegedly pulling a gun on the man?

He told police that the other man must have been confused -- he was pointing his keys at the other man, not a silver semiautomatic handgun.

But then the cops just happened to find a silver semiautomatic handgun under a towel in the scooter basket, according to a police report.

Orzechonski was about to be arrested, then claimed he was having breathing difficulties and was taken to a nearby hospital.

There, he changed his story a bit, the cops say.

Orzechonski told the cops that his reason for pulling a gun on the neighbor "must have been the medications" and that he wasn't thinking clearly, police say.

Orzechonski faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
