An 81-year-old Palm Springs resident died yesterday morning, 12 weeks after being placed in a hospice for injuries suffered when a cop car rammed into him, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Frank Muxella was riding his motorized chair on a sidewalk near the 1400 block of South Congress Avenue in Palm Springs a little before 2 p.m. on July 31, according to a PBSO vehicle homicide investigation log.

Meanwhile, Palm Springs Police Officer Nathan Allen Jr. was "operating his radar and watching traffic" driving in the opposite direction of Muxella on the street, which has three lanes in both directions.

When Allen found a car to pull over, he flipped on the lights and sirens.

At the same time, Muxella started crossing the street.

At that point, the cop car hit Muxella, causing "critical injuries" and forcing him into hospice care, according to the sheriff's office.

Muxella was in the hospice for 12 weeks before dying just after 7:15 a.m. yesterday.
