Two years before he was allegedly murdered by a lover, middle school teacher Calvin Williams twice called Riviera Beach police to his apartment to respond to violent domestic disputes.
The first call came on the night of September 25, 2008. Williams, then 39, told the dispatcher that his 19-year-old roommate, Tirrelle Robinson, was threatening to hit him with a bottle. Police officers responded to Williams' apartment around 8:20 p.m., but it's unclear what happened next. Detectives never wrote a detailed report about the incident.
Just over a month later, Williams called police again. This time, he described Robinson as his boyfriend, with whom he'd been living for
four months. Apparently, the couple got into a fight because Robinson had to walk home in the rain.
Pissed off and soaking wet, Robinson told the police he started cursing at Williams. The teacher pushed him, and Robinson retaliated by hitting Williams in the head, over and over again.
Robinson went on a rampage, throwing and breaking things in the house. Then he poured bleach all over Williams' clothes, Robinson told police.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found "no visible signs of any injuries to Williams."
But Robinson blurted out a confession: "I vandalized his house and hit him," he said, according to the police report.
So the cops arrested Robinson for simple domestic battery and booked him into the Palm Beach County Jail.
By this May, Williams was no longer living with Robinson. Another lover, 20-year-old Lawrence Hunt, told police that he fought with Williams early one morning because he'd heard that the teacher had HIV. According to the probable-cause affidavit, Hunt alleged that Williams threw him on the bed and tried to force himself on him. The men struggled, and Hunt shot Williams in the head.
Hunt has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and is awaiting trial.
