We've got a breaking story in suburban Boynton Beach where just after 6 a.m., a Palm Beach Sheriff's Office deputy had a confrontation that ended in a man's shooting death.

At the moment, details are sketchy, but it appears the deputy was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the Gable's End Plaza on Windward Passage Drive, just east of Military Trail.

UPDATE: PBSO just released the victim's name. It's David Scott Bennett, 40, of Jupiter. After the jump, a release about Bennett's felonious past.

From PBSO:

What we have learned thus far is the vehicle is a 2006 red four door Volkswagen. The vehicle was reported stolen and involved in a hit and run vehicle accident. At this point we have not determined the relationship between the vehicle owner and the subject.

The subject is a 40-year-old white male with a history of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Robbery, Vandalism, Battery, and numerous other felonies and misdemeanors. Detectives are in the process of notifying next of kin.

The deputy is currently on administrative leave with pay, which is standard protocol.
