World's Tallest Roller Coaster Coming to Florida

Ever get off a roller coaster and think to yourself, "Sure, being flung around at 90 miles an hour until my spleen is in my throat is fun and all. But what I really want is the sensation of falling off a building to my ultimate demise!" Well, good news!...

Ever get off a roller coaster and think to yourself, "Sure, being flung around at 90 miles an hour until my spleen is in my throat is fun and all. But what I really want is the sensation of falling off a building to my ultimate demise!"

Well, good news! Because Florida will soon be home to the world's tallest roller coaster.

The Polercoaster, which will rocket down a spirally track, will stand at 520 feet into the air and reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.

The current tallest coaster in the world is Six Flags New Jersey's Kingda Ka, which stands at 456 feet tall.

Thrill Rides, the Windermere-based company, designed the Polercoaster and says a buyer plans to build the ride somewhere in Florida.

A location has not been announced but is expected in a few weeks.

Getting on to ride the coaster will be different. Instead of waiting in line and then having the coaster climb up a steep incline before rocketing down, riders will have to get onto an elevator that will take them to the top of the coaster.

There, they'll find observation decks and areas where they can generally change their minds before they hurtle themselves down to Earth at breakneck speeds.

The Polercoaster's top will also have a double-decker restaurant, as well as outlet stores. Because you'll want to wear a brand-new GAP sweater you can puke your hot dog onto while on the ride.

The ride itself will work its way down in a spiral pattern, with rolls, loops and inversions, whereas a traditional coaster has dramatic drops and dips. Basically, the Polercoaster is one big drop, but with gyrations and loops in between

A Polercoaster, called The White Knuckler, will also be built in Atlanta soon. But Atlanta's ride will be around 325 feet.

Florida's Polercoaster's buyer has yet to announce where they'll be building the largest coaster in the world. And neither Disney nor Universal Studios have released any plans to make any announcements. But ride, which costs anywhere between $20 million to $60 to build, will be ready to ride come 2016.
