The Dolphins apparently went a little drunk-guy-at-the-strip-club and threw money all over the place Tuesday.
Particularly, at Steelers receiver Mike Wallace and, surprisingly, at Ravens linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.
But Jeff Ireland ain't done.
And while the moves seem to reek of a desperate GM trying not to get fired, overall, the pickups seem pretty good (albeit a tad expensive).
After missing out on trying to sign tight end Jared Cook, the Fins are going hard to the hoop on trying to get Dustin Keller to sign on the line that is dotted.
Keller, a standout tight end for the New York Jets, would be a fantastic catch for Ireland, since the tight-end position has been a pile of broken assholes thrown into the corner of a room in an abandoned crack house for several seasons now.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this morning that Keller is visiting Miami today, which is always a good sign.
Meanwhile, it looks like former overall number-one pick and guy whom the Dolphins chose over Matt Ryan, left tackle Jake Long, will no longer be around, as he is expected to sign with the St. Louis Rams (the same team that nabbed Cook).
The Dolphins are also expected to lose cornerback Sean Smith, which some say would be bad, while others (us included) would say that would be just fine.
However, it would leave a huge hole at corner, and, what with Tom Brady still alive and all, it would be a bad thing for Miami to not fill that need.
The Fins can take a gander at free-agent DBs like Nnamdi Asomugha, Cary Williams, Brent Grimes, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and Aqib Talib.
So, while everything is monkeys and balloons with Miami spending big, there are still some really giant-ass needs to be filled.
The good news is Miami parted ways with Karlos "Chancletas" Dansby to make room for Ellerbe -- who is younger, has more upside, and isn't a complete asshole.
We'll be sure to keep you updated on all things Dolphins as the day progresses.
