Clean Plate Charlie met up with partners Paul Greenberg and Rich Mijares to talk about American Social, their restaurant under construction at 721 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

"There's nothing like it in Florida," claims Greenberg, who wants to keep the concept under wraps until opening day draws closer.

When that will be is still to be determined, though the website has a countdown of days, minutes, and seconds for a late April opening.

As we talked, workers shunted debris from the roof down a gutter and into a dumpster. "With construction and permits, we have a ways to go," he said.

Here's what we do know: The spot will feature a craft cocktail program and 200 craft beers. Chef Heather Clippinger resigned from her job at YOLO two weeks ago to take the helm. And the partners are looking for management, marketing, bartenders, hosts, and servers, among others.
