Nothing beats bacon. And we're pretty sure that means nothing beats a bacon happy hour, either.

It seems the staff at The Gypsy's Horse Irish Pub in Wellington think so, too. After all, they're claiming to be the first and only establishment in the Broward or Palm Beach County area to implement a free "bacon happy hour."

Every Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Gypsy's Horse will be serving up free baskets of bacon at the bar available to anyone who purchases at least one drink. The first bacon happy hour took place last week, but don't worry. It will be ongoing for the next several months, so you still have plenty of time to clog your arteries.

And we're not talking plain old boring bacon, here (if there even is such a thing). According to chef Jorge Nickle, each Friday will feature a rotating selection of specialty flavors prepared in-house, including candied bacon, BBQ, Caribbean jerk, garlic, hot pepper, honey maple and applewood smoked -- just to name a few. Each flavor is fried up fresh and placed in a basket on the bar where hungry patrons can grab a handful -- or two.

All you need is a napkin, and an appetite for grease.

Nickle says he can't claim the idea for bacon happy hour, however. That honor belongs to longtime bartender "Handsome" Rob McGrath, who thought a great way to kick off the weekend's festivities would be with a drink or brew, and bacon. Lots of bacon.

"What can I say? It was a great idea, so we went for it," said Nickle.
