If you've ever dreamed of having a cold beer deep in the jungle while ferocious animals and birds of prey look on from the distance, then you should head out to the Palm Beach Zoo this Saturday, April 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. for Brew at the Zoo, a 21-and-over (in people years) event.
The Palm Beach Zoo's first beercentric event will feature about 60 brews from 20 brewers -- including six right here in Florida, like Cigar City, Native, Inlet, Tequesta, and Due South.
With thirst comes hunger, so Brew at the Zoo has partnered with some of South Florida's best-loved restaurants, such as Flanigan's, South Florida Barbeque, Chicago Food Shack, and (hopefully) some food trucks to serve well-priced and delicious food.
Ron Brooks, event manager for the Palm Beach Zoo, is looking forward to the party, which raises much-needed funds. "All net proceeds will support animal care, conservation, education, and sustainability at the zoo," he says.
Brooks told Clean Plate Charlie that the beer stations will be set up at different points of the zoo, including fountain circle and the wetlands exhibit, allowing eventgoers to spot hawks, vultures, eagles, and flamingos while enjoying their food and drink.
We asked Brooks which animals at the zoo are the biggest partiers, to which he replied, "None of our animals drink alcohol, so the biggest party animals will be the people who attend our event."
While they might not share a beer with you, expect to come face to face with some special guests, including a two-toed sloth, a hedgehog, and the New Guinea singing dogs, who will perform a rousing rendition of "100 Barrels of Beer on the Wall" (kidding!).
Tickets for Brew at the Zoo are available online through Saturday afternoon (or until sold out) and cost $35 for general admission, $75 for VIP (which includes complimentary food from Rooney's Public House and specialty beers from Ommegang, Innis & Gunn, Duvel, and Collesi). Tickets will not be available at the door, so be sure to buy them in advance and come out and drink for the animals.
