February 4 is Dia Nacional Del Pisco Sour in Peru. We're not sure if banks and schools are closed, but we imagine a country where work stops for the day to celebrate a cocktail, and we are happy.
We see this as a great opportunity to improve foreign relations with our friends in South America. Since the going rate for a round-trip ticket to Lima starts at around $500 before all those annoying taxes and fees, we're offering a more affordable celebration option.
Buddha Sky Bar in Delray Beach is celebrating Pisco Sour Day with handcrafted Pisco cocktails.
The key to a Pisco sour is (duh) Pisco, a potent
white brandy dating back to the 16th Century. A Pisco sour combines this "fifth white spirit" with fresh lime juice, egg whites, simple syrup, and bitters. The
result is a combination of sweet and sour tastes wrapped up in one
really potent cocktail.
Celebrate the day at Buddha Sky Bar, or make your own with this recipe:
Porton Pisco Sour
1 1/2 parts Pisco Porton
1/2 part fresh lime juice
1/2 part simple syrup
1/4 part egg white
Shake ingredients with ice. Strain into chilled glass. Garnish with a dash of bitters.
