South Florida is full of different dining options that can satisfy any type of craving.

From expensive celebrity-chef-driven restaurants to tiny pizza joints and everything in between, there tends to be no dearth of options; however, it's not often that you'll find an inexpensive casual spot with a big-time chef's name.

D'Angelo Pizza, Wine Bar, and Tapas throws that notion upside down. Celebrity chef and local favorite Angelo Elia is opening his newest casual outpost in Delray Beach later this week.

Starting on Thursday, for lunch and dinner, D'Angelo will be serving casual Tuscan fare with more than 90 wines and an extensive cocktail list.

Chef de Cuisine Peter Masiello will oversee the kitchen. A newcomer to the D'Angelo empire, he most recently worked at Frank and Dino's in Deerfield Beach and Damiano Restaurant in Boca Raton. With more than 20 years of experience in the industry, he has also spent time as head of Bova Restaurant Group's culinary operations and at New York Times-rated San Domenico in Manhattan.

"Coming from an Italian culinary background, it is an honor to work with an esteemed chef like Elia," said Masiello. "I'm excited to add my touch to the already amazing menu at D'Angelo Pizza ▪ Wine Bar ▪ Tapas, and I can't wait to showcase the food in the Delray community."

Using many of the same ingredients found in Elia's high-end concepts, the restaurant will feature signature dishes as well as new menu items.

Tapas, ranging from $8 to $15, include poached egg crostini with fava, asparagus, and truffle prosciutto vinaigrette; salads like roasted salmon with baby spinach, feta, red onion, walnuts, cranberries and balsamico; and Ravenna-grilled red snapper with mixed greens, palm hearts, Napa cabbage, almonds, apple, and citronette; and small plates such as tomato-braised veal and pecorino cheese meatballs, sautéed clams and mussels with roasted garlic and tomato guazzetto, and Angelo's fries tossed in basil pesto.

Made in the wood-burning oven, pizzas ($10 an $16) are available in whole wheat and gluten-free. Signature pies include the Sorrentina, topped with burrata, eggplant, fresh tomato, and basil; the Cremona, made with pear, crisp pancetta, Gorgonzola, and sun-dried figs; and the Angelo, a white pizza with buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, and shaved Reggiano.

The oven will also be used for a number of baked pastas, including lobster and shrimp cannelloni, gnocchi al forno, and ziti gratinato.

Expanding upon the tapas concept, the menu includes ceviche and carpacci ($12 to $14), like salmon ceviche with lime, grapefruit, and sliced radish; paninis, like the bufalino panini with buffalo mozzarella and marinated eggplant; calzones, including the norcino calzone, made with broccoli rapini, sausage, ricotta, and mozzarella cheese; and frittatas ($10 to $14), such as the patate frittata with potato, spinach, and mozzarella.

D'Angelo Pizza, Wine Bar, and Tapas will be located at 16950 Jog Road at the Shoppes at Addison Place in Delray Beach. Visit dangelopizza.com
