JC Wahoo's Sports Bar and Grill in Lighthouse Point looks like it belongs on the California coast instead of this quiet enclave in South Florida. It has a laidback feel that even us Floridians haven't mastered as well as the West Coast.

Which is why, be it for lunch or dinner, now is the time to hit up this island-themed bar and restaurant -- not such a bad idea since the weather is warmer, and anything with a tiki bar just seems necessary. Once inside (or out) at JC Wahoo's, and you'll feel as though you're standing on the deck of a boat -- one that has a lively bar scene, and plenty of flat screen TVs to cover all the sports you don't want to be missing.

Be it a table, booth -- or even the bar (a third tiki bar separates the bar area from the dining room) you're sure to be swept away with today's Deal of the Day, giving the chance to get $20 worth of food and drink for just $8.

Start out with the coconut shrimp, giant-sized ones served here with a tangy whiskey orange dipping sauce ($9.95). Stick with the island theme for a second go-around and order up two burger-sized jumbo lump crab cakes, an entree-sized portion plated alongside a heaping portion of mashed potatoes and a hearty helping of vegetables ($19.95).

For Charlie, the burger and sandwich menu is where you'll find some winning dishes, however. JC Wahoo's has a menu dedicated to them, with all the usual favorites. In the mood for chicken? Here you can order it eight different ways, from the Chicken Philly served with sauteed onions, peppers, mushrooms and provolone cheese ($8.95), to the famous JC's BBQ Chicken Sandwich smothered with bacon, cheddar cheese and onion rings ($9.95).

JC's is also known for their quesadillas, which come with your choice of cheese, vegetables, chicken, shrimp or mahi ($6.95 to $11.95), stuffed to the brim with grilled onions and tomatoes and served with a house-made mango salsa.

Ending the day with a bang? Be sure to stop in for JC's half-priced drinks and appetizers during their happy hour, offered daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. After a good dose of live music and a few tropical island drinks -- specialty concoctions like the Wahoosmopolitan -- and you'll be wishing you were shipwrecked.
