Over the past few years, it seems as though a million "better burger" chains have hit the south Florida market: BurgerFi, Evolution Burger, Five Guys. The list goes on and on. South Floridians obviously love their burgers.
While most of these chains have similar offerings-- i.e., burgers--the newest such chain stands out from the crowd. Not necessarily for the menu offerings, but for the name: Shula Burger.
The new Shula Burger may have opened about a month ago, but the party didn't start until its namesake arrived: the legendary Miami Dolphin coach Don Shula. Tuesday, November 20, was the grand opening party for the flagship store of the new Shula Burger chain.

Coach Don Shula is known not just for his coaching skills, but also for his highly acclaimed steakhouses. While the company has restaurants all over the country, they most certainly have become a fixture in the south Florida restaurant market. Now the company is trying its hand at the newest burger crazed market.
Clean Plate Charlie spoke to Coach Shula about his involvement in the new venture. "I do a lot of eating. Mary Anne is the great business mind. And Carrie LaNoce, her daughter, is in charge of marketing. I'm just the pretty face that sits at the bar," he says.
While he may not be overly involved in the everyday operations of Shula Burger, Coach Shula is excited nonetheless. "We've had a good crowd. I hope a lot of people try us out, like what we're doing, and tell more people about us. I think we have a great location," he says.
The opening of the new Shula Burger couldn't have come at a better time for the coach. It was first opened on October 17, on 17th St. Causeway, on the fortieth anniversary year of the Miami Dolphins 17-0 season. "There are a lot of good things to remember this year," says Shula," A lot of players will come back to celebrate. The Dolphins will be throwing a party and Mary Anne will throw a party, as well. If you've ever been to a party thrown by Mary Anne, you won't forget it."
We're still trying to figure out how to get on that guest list.
