Weekends are supposed to be your respite from the crazy stress of the workweek. Unfortunately, they only last two days.
While that's not exactly a huge chunk of time, it's enough to make a dent in your tension levels. Whether you want to stimulate your brain with some culinary enlightenment, splurge on a big fancy dinner, or just drink copious amounts of alcohol, Broward and Palm Beach counties have some entertaining options to satisfy your weekend whims.
5. Second Saturday Cask Party
Saturdays are cause for celebration in and of themselves. You get to sleep in and you don't have to get to bed at a reasonable hour: it's pretty much the best day of the week. On second Saturdays, your reason to party is just that much stronger; Due South Brewing Company hosts its Second Saturday Cask Party from noon to close with special, one of a kind treatments on is brews.
Due South Brewing Co. is located at 2900 High Ridge Road in Boynton Beach. Call 561-463-2337, or visit duesouthales.com.
4. Learn to Taste Olive Oils
Most people think of olive oil as merely a substance to prevent food from sticking to a pan; however, it's quite diverse with multiple variations and flavor profiles. For those of you looking to learn more, the Ancient Olive is holding a tasting on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Ten bucks in advance or $15 at the door gets you a welcome cocktail flavored with your choice of balsamic vinegars and extra virgin olive oils; a tutored olive oil class, starting at 2:30 p.m.; a tasting of local artisan products with talks from producers; and a sense of overall well-being for helping out the cause of Slow Foods Glades to Coast. To purchase tickets visit oliveoil915.eventbrite.com/
The Ancient Olive is located at 514 E. Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. Call 561-266-1099, or visit theancientolive.com.
3. West Palm Beach Bus Loop
If you've never heard of the bus loop, you're obviously new to the area; the bus loop is known for its ridiculously fun drunken antics -- if you're not hurting the next day, you didn't really experience it. The infamous bus loop is making its way around the bars of West Palm Beach this Saturday from 6 p.m. to Midnight. For $30 in advance, $35 at the door, you get a ride and a drink, of course, at ten Northwood Village, CityPlace, and Clematis Street bars. The evening culminates with a post-loop pizza party at World of Beer.
Check-In at Blue Martini CityPlace or World of Beer. Call 954-574-6000, or visit busloop.org/west_palm_beach_bus_loop.
2. Masi and Tenuta Sette Ponti
Sometimes the end of the workweek calls for treating yourself to something special. Casa D'Angelo is pretty much the epitome of indulgence -- in terms of your tastebuds and your wallet. On Friday at 6:30 p.m., the Best Restaurant to Seal the Deal is stepping it up another notch with its four-course Masi and Tenuta Setti Ponti wine dinner. Sandro Boscaini, president of Masi Agricola and Giovanna Moretti, reception and tasting manager of Tenuta Sette Ponti will be in attendance. The cost to attend is $185 per person -- you can work it off later.
Casa D'Angelo is located at 1201 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-564-1234, or visit casa-d-angelo.com.
1. Food Truck Safari
If there are two things that most people can agree on, it's cuddly animals and food. If you're not into one of the two, we suggest you get yourself checked out. On Saturday night from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., it's time to pair the two together -- with a healthy dose of beer, too -- at the Palm Beach Zoo. It's hosting its Food Truck Safari, yet again, this week with a wide variety of cuisines, live music, zookeeper talks, animal feedings, and up-close animal experiences. The cost to attend is $10 for adults, $9 for adult members, $7 for kids, and $6 for child members.
Palm Beach Zoo is located at 1301 Summit Blvd. in West Palm Beach. Call 561-533-0887, or visit palmbeachzoo.org.
