Instead of the usual Friday happy hour, why not watch people shave their heads for charity? Florida Panthers forward Shawn Matthias and others will shave their heads today at Sláinte Irish Pub in Boynton Beach to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
Slainte's Managing Partner Clem McAuley said $220,000 was raised last year to fight children's cancers and he's hoping to raise at least $150,000 this year. How's the money raised? Average people (and a Panther) pledge to shave their head and ask friends and family to sponsor them.
In order to help people feel good about their new 'do (or lack of one), four lives bands will provide music, The Guiness truck will make an appearance and there's a bounce house for the kids. The event starts at 3:00 p.m. and lasts until 11:00 p.m. Matthias is scheduled to cueball himself at 7:00 p.m.
Come out tonight and cheer these brave men and women who are going bald for a good cause. St. Baldrick's representatives will be on hand if you would like to shave your own head for the kids.
St. Baldrick's is a national organization that funds kids cancer research Fans can support Panther Shawn Matthias and donate to St. Baldrick's ahead of the event by visiting www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/participantid/438540.
