Why not start the weekend off, the very beginning of South Florida Beer Week mind you, with a malt-forward amber lager from Due South Brewing Co. called Lost City? I thought it would be appropriate to check out a mild alcohol-by-volume (this is 5.4 percent) beer from the brewery before its 10 percent ABV Mariana Trench Imperial Stout release event, Trench Day, this Saturday. Here, it appears that Due South is going for a richer beer with presence — as I mentioned before, it holds a lot of malt character. It pours a medium amber that's crystal-clear. The aroma gives off the first hints of sweetness, and with some swirling of the glass, Continental hops shrug some of their earthiness out. The flavor is rounded and full of accumulated maltiness.
