This week, I'm venturing into the portfolio of beers of M.I.A. Brewing Co. with its Regresa A Mi.

Regresa A Mi, which literally translates to "Come back to me," is one of three Berliner Weisse beers that the Miami brewery started releasing in April of this year.

This one is fermented with guava and hibiscus and comes in at a pleasant 3.5 percent alcohol by volume. Like most Berliner Weisses, it's low in alcohol and quite sessionable. The Berliner Weisse (pronounced "Bear-leeh-nuh Vice-uh") is a traditional beer style whose lineage dates back at least to the Middle Ages, according to the German Beer Institute. It is fermented with both yeast and lactic-acid bacteria, lending it a dose of tart acidity.

The beer pours an opaque pinkish color, reminiscent of guava juice, with a finger of thick pink-white foam. Aromas are big on guava and tropical fruit. It's hard to find any nuance with it, as the fruitiness really hammers the senses. Flavors match exactly that of the aroma: more guava and tropical fruit, but with a step toward tartness. The body here is something to write home about; it's big and thick and quite suits this beer. It's hard to imagine this actually is a beer since it tastes like a smoothie.

As the bartender who recommended I try this one told me, "It's the perfect breakfast beer." I agree wholeheartedly.

Overall this is a guava bomb that drinks like a smoothie even though it's a fruit-forward Berliner Weisse. I miss the hibiscus subtlety, though perhaps it's buried in there waiting to be found.

The beer is available on draft at a limited number of bars in the area (mine was sourced at the Brass Tap) as well as at the brewery's taproom at 10400 NW 33rd St., Suite 150, in Doral. Call 786-801-1721, or visit miabrewing.com.
