So, Irene is out of our hair, having wreaked little havoc in Broward or Palm Beach counties. And while you may be tempted to stay home and celebrate that fact with the remainder of your hurricane supplies (read: booze, and uh... saltines?), there are fun things to be done and people to meet out and about this week. Here's a look at just six of the events happening in Broward/PBC:

Tonight:

In the Biz Night at LongBoards -- If you're part of the cool-kids club known as the hospitality industry in South Florida, you are invited to partake in LongBoards' newly launched ITB night every Monday from 10 p.m. to midnight. Enjoy an open bar and snacks while sharing stories from behind the line. One catch: You must bring proof of employment in the industry to cash in on the goods at this new addition to Clematis Street in West Palm Beach.

Tuesday:

Fine Wine Gala -- Fresh Market, with its mood lighting, wine samples, and classical music on the P.A., has always seemed like a somewhat refined (if pricey) place to stock the pantry. It will be interesting to see what they do with the Fine Wine Gala hosted in partnership with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation from 7 to 9 p.m. at the store's Boca Raton location at 100 W. Camino Real. Tickets cost $30 per person, for which you will be served an assortment of wines, plus prime rib, shrimp cocktail, and various cheeses. Ticket sales are limited to 200 people.

Victory/Left Hand Tap Takeover -- The team at Laser Wolf will host another night of tap takeovers with Victory and Left Hand Brewing offering up a small selection of special drafts. Frequent Laser Wolf visitors Truckin' Good Pizza will be parked outside if the late-night, postbeer munchies should strike. The pouring begins at 5 p.m. and continues till 2 a.m.

Wednesday:

Music, Massages, and Mimosas -- Orange juice and champagne go just as well together at the end of a meh workday as they do on a Sunday morning served with poached eggs and crispy bacon. Have your share from 6 to 8 p.m. at Polo Club Shoppes, 5050 Champion Blvd. in Boca Raton, as part of the final event for Boca Festival Days. A $10 admittance fee goes to help local kids via the nonprofit iNspired Generation.

Cypress Creek Food Truck Roundup -- Last week, Clean Plate Charlie set the record straight about the issue of food truck safety in South Florida and whether mobile food purveyors adhere to the same rules as their brick-and-mortar counterparts. Curious to do your own firsthand investigation? Swing by the roundup from 5 to 9:30 p.m. to try food from expected guests 4 Alarm Pizza, B.C. Tacos, Crepe Outdoors, Dog Eat Dog, Miso Hungry, Monster Burgers, and Sugar Yummy Mama. For the uninitiated: Bring cash. The roundup is at the corner of Cypress Creek and Powerline in Fort Lauderdale.

Thursday
:

Flavor Palm Beach -- No need to pull a dine and dash to "afford" some of the more upscale restaurants that Palm Beach County has to offer. All through September, Flavor Palm Beach -- PBC's answer to Miami Spice -- gives thrifty diners a chance to hit a participating venue and enjoy a three-course prix fixe menu on the cheap ($20 for lunch, $30 to $35 for dinner). Participants include Cafe Boulud, III Forks, and Table 42, among many, many others.
