Miami-Dade County restaurants may get a lot of national media attention for food, but when it comes to wine, eateries in Broward and Palm Beach counties win corks down. Indeed, of the thirteen South Florida restaurants that won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for outstanding wine lists for 2000, only two were located in Miami Beach. The rest spring from around here, ranging from Casa D'Angelo in Fort Lauderdale (1201 N. Federal Hwy., 954-564-1234) to Grapevines Wine Bar & Shoppe in Jupiter (2133 S. Federal Hwy., 561-745-8866). Hobo's Fish Joint in Pompano Beach (10317 Royal Palm Blvd., 954-346-5484) and Zemi in Boca Raton (5050 Town Center Cir., 561-391-7177) also took home the well-deserved honor. Surely it's just a matter of time before the rest of the country realizes the level of sophistication we have begun to achieve.
