Get a Dime Piece Burger at 5 Girls Burgers in Pompano Beach

South Florida doesn't necessarily need another burger joint. But it could use one with a little character -- and that just so happens to come free at a new Broward County restaurant where you can "play the field," have a "broad" dressed up any way you like, and get your hands on some "milk jugs" -- all in one meal.

No, this isn't a strip club we're talking about. It's 5 Girls Burgers in Pompano Beach.

5 Girls Burgers opened in late November in the newly renovated shops at 2659 E. Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week and offers everything from egg sandwiches and salads to chicken wings, grilled cheese sandwiches, and burgers.

If the name looks and sounds familiar, don't jump to any conclusions. It has nothing to do with Five Guys, says 5 Girls Burgers co-owner Zachary Geller. Instead, he told Clean Plate Charlie the restaurant is named after the five girls in his life: his mom, two sisters, and two grandmothers.

"People ask us about our name, but we haven't heard anything. No complaints, and we haven't received a cease-and-desist letter," said Geller.

At 5 Girls, you can start your day with a number of different offerings: four-egg omelets, three-egg sandwiches, Nova lox platters, pancakes, or challah bread French toast. For lunch, take it easy and "play the field" with a wedge, house, or Greek salad that can be customized with chicken and a choice of salad dressing. Wings come in orders anywhere from 12 to 30 pieces with lemon pepper, spicy honey chipotle, BBQ, BuffQ, and Buffalo sauce. And cheese girls sandwiches allow you to create a number of cheesy creations that include avocado, bacon, tomato, spinach, ham, arugula, goat cheese, and chipotle gouda.

The real draw at 5 Girls: the burgers (AKA broads). There are 13 in all, a little something for every taste. Take the Plain Jane, a beef patty with tomato, onion, and cheese for $6.95. If you want to get fancy, the Kobe beef Dime Piece comes with sautéed mushrooms and onions and white American cheese for $12.95.

"Most burger places have triple cheeseburgers, tons of sauces, and load tons of mumbo jumbo on top to make their burgers stand out," says Geller. "But we just want our product to be unique and, above all, top-quality."

Meats are delivered daily from a local butcher, and the menu offers a number of choices, which means everyone can find something on this menu. If you want a gluten-free bun, they have that too. Want your burger on a bed of spinach or lettuce? Done.

But please, don't try to change these broads. Each selection comes as-is (no alterations or substitutions). If none of them is quite your type, you can always create your own. How about some grade-A Kobe meat with Cheese Whiz topping?

Of course, you can get more than just a nice piece of beef at 5 Girls. The '50s-style dineresque eatery also offers pork, chicken, black bean, portobello mushroom, tuna, and lamb. Order the Bombshell (when available) and you'll get not one but two soft-shell crabs dolled up with tartar sauce, lettuce, and tomato for $14.95.

"[My dad and I] were trying to find something everyone can relate to, and everyone loves a woman and can relate to women," said Geller. "And everyone loves burgers."

Keep your eyes peeled for more girls; Geller said the hunt for a second location in Broward or Palm Beach County is in the works.
