It's a hard fact to face: Birthdays mean you're getting older. Today, for example, I have reached the quarter-century mark. Am I upset about it? Hardly. Mostly due to the copious amounts of free food I will be consuming throughout the day.

Restaurants local and nationwide award birthdays with freebies. If you've lived to see another year, celebrate with some goodies. We all know one day you may not even be able to taste, so take advantage of it now.

I'm starting off my day with a free medium coffee from Dunkin' Donuts, since they sent me a lovely postcard through their DD Perks program. If Starbucks is your coffee crack of choice, it offers a free beverage on your birthday if you're apart of the My Starbucks Rewards program. If you take the day off to bask in the birthday glory greatness (unlike myself, clearly), stop by Denny's for a free grand slam breakfast. No signup required.

Need a snack? Auntie Anne's offers a free pretzel after a quick registration for their VIP (Very Important Pretzel-Lover) deal. Chick-fil-A offers a free meal on your birthday if you're in their Insider's Club.

Heading out for dinner? Sign up for the Chef's Table from Benihana and get a $30 birthday certificate. If that's not your scene, sign up for Ruby Tuesday's So Connected and get a free burger.

Don't forget dessert! Dairy Queen offers a free blizzard when you sign up for its DQ Blizzard fan club. For the late-night moochers, Duffy's Sports Bar & Grill gives out a $25 birthday bonus when you are an MVP card holder. That's $25 off of everything. No exclusions on alcohol.
